Produce clean monthly financial statementsGenerate an accurate profit-and-loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement every month.

Fully separate personal and business financesConfirm all revenue and expenses run through the business account, not a personal card or account.

Build a business credit fileGet a D-U-N-S number and open a couple of vendor trade lines to establish credit under the business's EIN, separate from your personal credit.

Explore a business line of credit or SBA loanTalk to your bank or an SBA lender about a credit line for cash-flow gaps or an SBA 7(a)/504 loan for growth capital.

Document your core processesWrite down how you deliver your product or service step by step so it isn't only in your head.
Step 6
Review pricing and marginsRecalculate margins with current costs; raise prices where they no longer cover cost plus a real profit.
Step 7
Plan your next hire or contractorIdentify the task eating the most of your time that someone else could do, and write a simple job description.
Step 8
Set up payroll and employer accounts if hiringRegister for state unemployment insurance and set up payroll tax withholding before your first employee starts.

Pursue relevant certificationsLook into MBE, WBE, or 8(a) certification if you plan to sell to corporations or government agencies.
